Lies, Lies, Lies!

On January 6, 2017, Afflicted By Design released their new Ep, Lies, Lies, Lies!. Mixing hard-driving rhythms and heavy guitars, with electronica, Lies, Lies, Lies! features the 2 new original songs “Automatic Static” and “Warm and Pretty Lies” along with 2 remixes of those tracks.

After recording and producing the previous Afflicted By Design releases on his own, Afflicted By Design frontman S.A. Sebastian Gnolfo enlisted Kfir Gov, of the Tech-n-Roll band Seek Irony to produce Lies, Lies, Lies! “It was difficult giving up control to someone else,” says Sebastian, “but when I sat down with Kfir to go over the songs he showed me that I was writing like a guitar player, ignoring my vocals. AfterI just a few minutes I was able to sing them better. I knew what it could work.”

For Lies, Lies, Lies! Sebastian wanted to create something that combined industrial, punk and synth-pop, and Kfir helped achieve that vision, especially with the track “Warm and Pretty Lies,” which features vocals by Rona Rougeheart of the band SINE. According to Sebastian, “Writing the lyrics to ‘Warm and Pretty Lies,’ it felt like a Human League song. I really wanted to capture that ‘Don’t You Want Me,’ kinda vibe, but heavy. Kfir recommended Rona for the female lead. I had seen Rona play drums, but I didn’t know she sang. Kfir introduced us, she got behind the mic, and her part really pulled the song together.”

On Lies, Lies, Lies! Sebastian is joined by former Otto’s Daughter bandmate Fred Fata on lead guitar and guitars synth, Rom Gov —Kfir’s bother and bandmate in Seek Irony — on drums, and Rona Rougeheart of SINE and Dead Love Club on vocals on “Warm and Pretty Lies.” The remix of “Automatic Static” was done by Sebastian’s former Otto’s Daughter bandmate, Jacqueline Van Bierk, who also appeared on “This Is Not A Love Song,” and the remix of “Warm and Pretty Lies” was done by Lenny Gonzalez of A Chango Feo Abstraction, who will make an appearance on a future Afflicted By Design release.

This Is Not A Love Song

I Believe In Halloween

On November 4, 2014 Afflicted By Design released the “I Believe In Halloween” single. The new Afflicted By Design single, “I Believe In Halloween,” is only available digitally at iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, AmazonMP3, Rdio & Deezer .

Originally intended as a Halloween release, the song got held up in licensing red tape. However, like “Everyday Is Halloween” by Ministry, this isn’t a seasonal Halloween song. It’s an anthem for people that celebrate the night, that are out of the ordinary, that are a little bit left of center, that worship the dark. For those of us that everyday is Halloween.

Once again S.A. Sebastian teamed up with Michael J. Carrasquillo (Slick Idiot, isol8ed) on drums and vocals, and, this time with Dylan S. Mitchell (Scratcher, Blueberry High Heels) on guitar solos. And –this is pretty cool– Mike’s daughter makes a special appearance singing in the choruses.

“I Believe In Halloween” is a cover of the song by The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black; an amazing Goth-Punk band from NYC, whose songs and performances have influenced and inspired Sebastian. After you’ve listened to the Afflicted By Design version, take the time to check out the original. TVHOKB is pretty badass!
